During the comprehensive repair and construction process carried out by Baku Maintenance Service in our historic city, even the smallest details are not overlooked. Traditional elements that give a special character to the city’s architecture - historical gates and doors, balconies, and windows are particularly noteworthy.
Such elements are abundant on the façades of 19th-century buildings in the historic neighborhoods of Ganja. To date, three historic wooden doors, one wooden gate, and two wooden balconies have been fully restored.
During the restoration, the wooden frames of the original windows in the buildings were cleaned and reinforced. Old, cracked glass was replaced with new panes. As the wooden doors were still functional, they also required reinforcement. The door locks and other components were repaired, and missing details were fabricated as needed. The surfaces of the doors were stripped of multiple layers of paint, cracks and decay were filled, and the doors were repainted.
The old wooden gate in one of the buildings underwent the same restoration process and was completely refurbished.
The ancient balconies, which add a special beauty to Ganja’s historic appearance, were also restored, two of them fully, and one had its color refreshed.
The glass panels of the two enclosed wooden balconies were reinforced, and new glass was installed where necessary. The surfaces of the wooden elements were cleaned, and all existing issues were resolved. After treatment with special materials, the wood was repainted and handed over.
It should be noted that restoring historical wooden architectural elements is not an easy task. Thanks to the skill of specialized craftsmen and their dedication to the work, the true character of the city is being gradually restored.
