As part of the large-scale improvement and restoration works carried out in Ganja by the Baku Maintenance Service, one of the most notable sites is the Ganja Fortress Gates Archaeology and Ethnography Museum Complex.

Commissioned in 2014 and symbolizing the historic Ganja fortress, the monument’s exterior was first washed and cleaned, followed by gap-filling work on its walls, after which a protective transparent lacquer coating was applied. According to Jamil Kojayev, Head of Planning and Architecture at the Baku Maintenance Service, insulation work is currently underway on the upper section of the Fortress Gates, and in the next phase, a porcelain tile covering will be installed in that area.

During the improvement works, 11 benches around the monument, as well as inscriptions, city emblems, and statues, were restored. The square where the Azerbaijani flag stands within the monument’s territory was also put in order.

As part of the restoration works, decorating certain exteriors and walls in Ganja with decorative elements is another noteworthy aspect. According to Israfil Farajullayev, an employee of the Baku Maintenance Service, none of these elements were chosen randomly. All decorative details, including wooden ornaments, were created on the basis of the patterns of Ganja and Ganja-Gazakh carpets. These embellishments now add a unique beauty to the city’s central streets - Heydar Aliyev and Ataturk Avenues, as well as the Ozanlar quarter and have earned strong admiration from the residents of Ganja.

It should be noted that during recent improvement works in Lachin, patterns from the local “Gasimushagi” carpet were also used. In this way, the Baku Maintenance Service brings historical motifs to the areas it restores while giving a second life to symbolic ornaments cherished as heirlooms from grandmothers.

The improvement works carried out in the city of Ganja contribute to renewing the city’s appearance, shaping an aesthetic environment and enhancing its tourism potential.
